Supplies: Medium size box, duct tape, Green (flower) styrofoam (1 large cone & one medium size circle), box cutter, low temp hot glue gun, paper mache, large spoon, metalic green, brown & white paint, paint brush, Mod Podge, plastic eyes |
Step 1: Duct tape all edges of box. With the box cutter, cut a circle on one end of your box. Cut the green (flower) styrofoam to make the upper lip, lower lip, top fins & tale. |
Step 2: With your low temp glue gun, adhere all of the green (flower) styrofoam parts. |
Step 3: Paper mache the entire box.
Step 4: With your large spoon, make indentions in the wet paper mache on the sides & top of the box. |
Step 5: Roll up some wet paper mache and place on the both sides of the box for eyelids. |
Step 6: Once the paper mache is completely dry (better if you can let it dry overnight), paint the entire fish with the metalic green paint.
Step 7: Let the paint dry completely. Get your brown paint, dilute it with water, and do light brush strokes on the top part of the entire fish. With the diluted brown paint, paint stripes on the fins & tail. Rinse brush & get clean water. Get your white paint, dilute it with water, and do light brush strokes on the bottom of the entire fish. |
Step 8: After all the paint is dry, coat the entire fish with Mod Podge. This puts a protective layer over your painted paper mache and leaves a fantastic glossy finish. Apply several coats. |
Step 9: Hot glue your plastic eye balls under the eyelids. |
Final detail of the tail.
